New Bento Boxes at Shokudo

As the economy gets continuously worse, restaurants are having to find ways attract business. Today, my sister and I went to one of our favorite restaurants, Shokudo, to try out their latest effort to tempt the lunch crowd. My sister heard from a friend who works at Shokudo that they had recently added bento boxes as a more affordable alternative to their pricey, yet delectable, ala carte menu.

  • Chicken Karaage Lunch Bento Box- $8.95
  • Teriyaki Chicken Lunch Bento Box – $8.95
  • Assorted Tempura Lunch Bento Box – $9.95
  • Teriyaki Salmon Lunch Bento Box – $12.95
  • Healthy Bento Box- $9.95
  • Combination Bento Box- $11.95
  • Deluxe Combination Bento Box – $13.95
  • Shokudo Deluxe Bento Box- $18.95

Obviously, the Lunch Bentos if the best deal, and all boxes come with Edomame, Salad, and Rice. A pretty good deal in my opinion. Hopefully, these new menu items will be just what SHokudo needs to increase their lunch business.

Having enjoyed Guinness floats before, the color didn’t faze me at all; unlike my sister. However, I couldn’t quite figure out what the black sesame part was. It could have been sesame seeds blended in sugar syrup. I couldn’t figure it out, which was quite vexing considering how essential my palate is to my given profession. I just knew that it tasted weird, and I didn’t like the chalky mouth feel of the blended sesame seeds.

So, in conclusion, I give the Bento Boxes a definite must try if you are looking for lunch near Ala Moana Center. As for the Black Sesame Float, unless you really like black sesame seeds or are feeling a bit adventurous, I would recommend passing on that one.
