There is Always Room for More Meat in Food Porn

burger10wmWell, it was another slow day in the restaurant, and we couldn’t help ourselves. After the success of our monster Cheese Steak Sandwich, the guys in the kitchen were once more craving confrontation of a colossal culinary challenge (Isn’t alliteration wonderful?)

Last month, as soon as our brains were clear from the glutenous stupor brought on from eating a giant sandwich, we started throwing around ideas for what our next fun project would be. It didn’t take long for us to agree that a hamburger would be a fitting challenge.  So, this week Wednesday, business was sufficiently slow enough to allow us some time to amuse ourselves as cooks do… By cooking of
course.

Of course, being the baker in the group, baking of the bun fell to me. I simply took four pounds of dough and put it into the biggest rondeau that we had. I let it proof as per a normal sized loaf of bread, and then baked it. When it was done, one of the cooks jokingly referred to it as a wheel of cheese.

To make the burger, I once again dipped into my food credit, and bought a bunch of steaks that was then ground into hamburger. The burger was them cooked on the flat top griddle. Fortunately, the restaurant had a pizza peal which came in really handy when it was time to flip the burger and then remove it from the griddle. As you can see, the burger was topped with cheese, and about pound of bacon.

Of course, what burger is complete without the lettuce and tomato. This burger was about 16″ in diameter, and if you look at the bun to meat ratio, I’m kind of ashamed to say that the meat looked pretty meager in relation to the rest of the sandwich. Something we plan to remedy the next time we do this. Oh yes we will do this again.

burger12wmYou get an idea in the last picture as to how big this sandwich was. That’s my iPhone on the plate next to the slice. After we were done, I searched the internet and found that the world’s biggest hamburger weighed a whopping, nit easily attainable 100 pounds. The bun I made could easily accommodate a bigger hamburger patty, and we aim to fill it.

Song stuck in my head at the time of this post: Move Along by All American Rejects
