For those of you who are not familiar with Twitter or the vocabulary associated with it, Twitter is a social networking at micro-blogging service that allows its users to send updates (known as “Tweets”) of what they are doing to anyone who subscribes to their feed. The term “Tweetup” refers to a real world meeting between people who know each other through Twitter.

In two years, charity: water has raised over $7 million and funded 1,247 water projects.

On February 12th 2009, Twestival, the worlds biggest Tweetup, will take place in over 200 cities around the world. This global gathering of Twitter users will be meeting in an effort to raise money for Charity: Water, a not-for profit organization whose purpose is to provide clean drinking water to developing nations.

This grassroots event is completely organized by local volunteers and will feature food, socializing and entertainment. Because each city’s event is organized by volunteers and funded through public donations, all proceeds go towards Charity: Water.

If you live in Hawaii, like me, then I hope to see you at Twestival: Honolulu, which will be held at Oceans 808 from 5-9pm. If not, then you can find an event in a city near you via the Twestival homepage. However, if you can’t make it to an event, but still want to make a donation to this very worthy cause, then you can do so at Please Give.

Song stuck in my head at the time of this post: Womanizer by Britney Spears (Oh god, get it out! Get it out!)
